Researching the Body’s Control Center

Neurons compose four basic structures in the nervous system—the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and receptors—and this BioBox is an exploration of these structures through hands-on experimentation. Here, students will get the opportunity to dissect a sheep brain, study a spinal cord under a microscope, and test the functionality of the nervous system using their own bodies. It’s an interactive way of teaching them about the system that guides every aspect of their lives.

This BioBox poses a few questions on the basics of the nervous system:

  • What are the structures of the brain?
  • How do grey matter and white matter differ?
  • What functions can the spinal cord perform?
  • How do reflexes work?
